New Kindergarten to Grade 5 Explorers Program
Come and experience the fun!!

Starting October 4th, we will be launching our own in-house program for children between kindergarten and grade 5.  They
will be called “The Explorers”.

The goal of our new program is to get the children excited about God while learning the bible, applying it to their everyday lives, and developing friendships.  Unlike    traditional curriculums which have a heavy emphasis on stories and crafts, our in-house program will be multi-faceted so that the diverse interests and needs of each child will be met.

4-Weeks Of Fun & Learning

Our new program will teach one bible story over four weeks.  Each week will have a   different theme:

Week 1 will be called our Blast Off week and it will have a story, arts and game emphasis.  This is the week that we will introduce the bible story.  Our active learning approach will allow all the children to be engaged in telling and discussing the story.   We will then  provide a variety of arts-based activities that the children can choose from.  We will conclude with a challenging game for the children to play.  Our games will take into account the fact that some children like adventure, some children like to be physically and mentally challenged, and all children like to have fun.

Week 2 will have a Drama theme.  This is the week that the children will get to act out the story in a pre-planned, guided manner.  We will have lots of costumes which will sometimes include props the children made the previous week, and we will make use of our indoor and outdoor facilities in order to craft the physical setting of the story together.

Week 3 will have a Technology theme.  This is the week that the children will get to watch a movie related to the story as well as use some bible game software in an interactive manner to learn more about the story.

Week 4 will have a Parallels theme.  This is the week that the children will relate the bible story to their lives through discussion together and some role-playing. We will then finish our 4-week learning experience with a game called The Great Challenge.  It will be competitive, goofy, and fun in nature and it will include some of the learning elements that have taken place.  There will also be  different versions of the game so that it will be developmentally   appropriate for all the children.

Every week will also incorporate music, prayer, and some bible memory verse work but don’t expect it to be ordinary! On the contrary,   music time will be lively and action-based.  Prayer time will take different forms (for   example, a football huddle) that create a   comfortable space for the children to learn how to pray.  The memory verse will be practiced so that the children can memorize it and be correspondingly recognized.

You Are Welcome To Join Us!

We are very excited about our new program and hope that your children will join the adventure with us.  No sign up is required.  All the children who show up on any given Sunday will be able to join in the fun.  Also, since this is a new program, we will continuously evaluate it and make modifications as required so that our goals will be attained.

In addition to our new Explorers curriculum, we continue to have a daycare for our youngest children (birth to preschool) as well as a youth group for grades 6 and up.  Our youth group also meets every other Saturday evening for fun events together.

Vacation Bible Camp 2009

Everyone had a great time at Emmanuel’s Vacation Bible Camp this summer as they Experienced + Discovered God Everywhere!!– CAMP E.D.G.E. was not your typical stroll through the woods. It was an action-packed, adrenaline-filled expedition that teaches kids their strength and might come from God.

“The Lord is My Strength and My Might.” Psalm 118:14a

Children began every morning at the base camp where the directors, Robyn Brooks and Jenny Cheong prepared everyone for each day’s new, exciting adventure.

The music team, Cynthia Shin, Wendy Shin, Leah Gillespie and Peter Dunn taught the kids some great new songs which everyone was very enthusiastic about.

After the opening assembly, campers rotated through a variety of activity centres.

image3The science lab at Exploration Ridge was a favourite stop and at Art Apex they created unique projects that related to the theme of the day. The Extreme Bible Trek took the children on a journey to a different Bible destination each day. The music and the snacks all reinforced the daily Bible stories and E.D.G.E. Pledges.
